Vatican Not Happy With Secular Justice

Mark Hanson

The Romanist Church has had a very difficult time of late with the revelations of child abuse within its ranks.  Yet the hierarchy of Romanism is not doing itself any favours.

In a sign of increasing tension between the Romanists and the secular authorities, the Pope condemned investigative measures undertaken by Belgian police, as the full scale of the entrenched sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic church has become more and more apparent.

The pope insisted that the Romanist authorities should play a pivotal role in any investigations of clerical abuse, despite the initial assertions by the Romanists that the accusations of child abuse within their ranks was a conspiracy.  Some bishops even went as far as to suggest that the “plot to discredit the church” was orchestrated by the “God killing Jews”.

In these times it is not surprising that a rift should open up between secular governments and the Mystery Babylon of Scripture, yet we can also see that the Romanist Church is further positioning itself as the only source of spiritual authority, and insisting that she should have an equal role in the criminal justice system alongside the secular authorities.

In a letter to the head of the Belgian bishops' conference, Monsignor André-Joseph Léonard, the pope said that he wanted to express “my closeness and solidarity in this moment of sadness, in which, with certain surprising and deplorable methods, searches were carried out."  The Belgian authorities had detained certain bishops and also searched for official documents that might assist in the investigation.

Groups representing abuse victims were outraged at the pope’s intervention.
